1813 CE- On May 14, 1813, Simon Bolivar and his followers invaded Venezuela, the start of Bolivar's admirable campaign
1814 CE- Royalist forces defeated Simon Bolivar. He was soon exiled in Jamaica
1817 CE- Simon Bolivar again invaded Venezuela. He established a revolutionary government at Angostura(currently Ciudad Bolivar), and he was elected president of Venezuela
Aug. 1819- Battle of Boyaca is fought between Bolivar's army and an equal Spanish army. The Spanish army is beaten handily, 100 men died and 1,600 to 1,800 were taken as prisoners
Dec. 1819- The original republic of Columbia was liberated by Bolivar and was the first freed from the Spanish. Bolivar was later named president of the republic of Colombia
1821 CE- Battle of Carabobo starts on June 25, 1821 and was liberated from the Spanish
1821 CE- Creation of Gran Colombia under Bolivar
1821 CE- Simon Bolivar added Ecuador to the new Colombian republic
1822 CE- The Battle of Pichincha started on May 24, 1822. Bolivar's lieutenant, Antonio Jose de Sucre liberated Ecuador. Now, only Peru is controlled by Spain
1822 CE- On July 26, 1822, Bolivar meets with Jose de San Martin in Guayaquil to talk about a strategy to liberate Peru. Bolivar took command of the operation, while San Martin decided to retire and goes into exile in France
1824 CE- on aug. 6, 1824, Simon Bolivar and Sucre lead 9,000 men to fight the Spanish in the battle of Junin. Sucre takes action against the retreating Spaniards, while Bolivar must return to Lima to establish a government
1824 CE- On Dec. 9, 1824, Sucre demolishes a larger Spanish army in the Battle of Ayacucho, ending Spain's presence in South America
1825 CE- Upper Peru became an independent state, and was named Bolivia in honor of Simon Bolivar
1825 CE- Simon Bolivar was elected president of Peru
1830 CE- On Dec 17, 1830, Bolivar dies from tuberculosis near Santa Marta, Colombia
